## Abstract

An engine includes a duct containing a flow of cool air and a pump system for providing air to an environmental control system. The pump system has an impeller having an inlet for receiving cool air from the duct and an outlet for discharging air to the environmental control system.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An engine comprising:
a duct containing a flow of cool air;
a pump system for providing air to an environmental control system; and
said pump system comprising an impeller having an inlet for receiving cool air from said duct and an outlet for discharging air to said environmental control system.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The engine according to claim 1, further comprising:
an intake manifold for receiving said air from said duct and for delivering said air to said intake.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The engine according to claim 2, further comprising:
a discharge manifold for delivering said air from said outlet to said environmental control system.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The engine according to claim 3, wherein said environmental control system includes an aircraft precooler and said discharge manifold delivers said air to said aircraft precooler.

### Claim 5 (depends on 3)

The engine according to claim 3, further comprising a valve incorporated into said discharge manifold to control the flow of said air through said discharge manifold.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The engine according to claim 1, wherein said pump system further comprises a towershaft for driving said impeller.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The engine according to claim 6, further comprising a spool and said towershaft being connected to said spool by a drive gear.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The engine according to claim 7, wherein said spool is a low spool connected to a fan.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The engine according to claim 7, wherein said spool is a high spool connected to a high pressure compressor.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The engine according to claim 1, wherein said engine has a fan and said duct is a by-pass duct having an air stream created by said fan.

### Claim 11

A pump system for providing air to an environmental control system, said pump system comprising:
an air intake for receiving air from a supply of air;
an impeller having an intake for receiving said air and an outlet for discharging said air; and
a discharge manifold for delivering said air from said outlet to said environmental control system.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The pump system of claim 11, further comprising a towershaft for driving said impeller.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The pump system of claim 12, wherein said towershaft is driven by a spool of an engine.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The pump system of claim 13, wherein said spool is a low spool.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The pump system of claim 13, wherein said spool is a high spool.

### Claim 16 (depends on 13)

The pump system of claim 13, wherein said towershaft is connected to said spool by a drive gear.

### Claim 17 (depends on 11)

The pump system of claim 11, further comprising a valve incorporated into said discharge manifold.
