Abstract
A force directed graph may display recent activities of a message passing system as highlighted features over a larger graph. The force directed graph may display a superset of nodes and edges representing processes and message routes, then display recent activities as highlighted elements within the larger superset. The highlighted elements may display messages passed or computation performed during a recent time element of a time series. In some embodiments, the effects of activities may be displayed by decaying the highlighted visual elements over time.
Claims20
A method performed by a computer processor, said method comprising:
- receiving a time series of message passing data, said message passing data comprising messages passed between objects, said time series comprising said message passing data for each of a plurality of time intervals;
- analyzing said message passing data to identify nodes, said nodes corresponding to said objects;
- analyzing said message passing data to identify edges, said edges corresponding to said messages;
- displaying said nodes and said edges in a graph, said graph representing said messages passed between said objects;
- and
- updating said graph for each of said message passing data for said time intervals.
A system comprising:
- a processor;
- an analyzer operating on said processor, said analyzer that:
- receives a time series of message passing data, said message passing data comprising messages passed between objects, said time series comprising said message passing data for each of a plurality of time intervals;
- analyzes said message passing data to identify nodes, said nodes corresponding to said objects;
- analyzes said message passing data to identify edges, said edges corresponding to said messages;
- a visualizer that:
- displays said nodes and said edges in a graph, said graph representing said messages passed between said objects;
- and
- updates said graph for each of said message passing data for said time intervals.
