Abstract
Modeling hydrocarbon flow from kerogens in a hydrocarbon bearing formation. At least some of the illustrative embodiments are methods including modeling flow of hydrocarbons through a hydrocarbon bearing formation by: obtaining an indication of kerogen-wet porosity of kerogen within a portion of the formation; obtaining an indication of water-wet porosity within the portion of the formation; modeling hydrocarbon movement through the kerogen-wet porosity; and modeling hydrocarbon movement through the water-wet porosity.
Claims21
A method comprising:
- modeling, by a computer system, flow of hydrocarbons through a hydrocarbon bearing formation by:
- obtaining an indication of kerogen-wet porosity of kerogen within a portion of the formation;
- obtaining an indication of water-wet porosity within the portion of the formation;
- modeling hydrocarbon movement through the kerogen-wet porosity;
- and
- modeling hydrocarbon movement through the water-wet porosity, the movement through the water-wet porosity distinct from the movement through the kerogen-wet porosity.
A computer system comprising:
- a processor;
- a memory coupled to the processor;
- and
- a display device coupled to the processor;
- wherein the memory stores a program that, when executed by the processor, causes the processor to:
- obtain an indication of kerogen-wet porosity of kerogen within a portion of a hydrocarbon formation;
- obtain an indication of water-wet porosity within the portion of the hydrocarbon formation;
- simulate movement of hydrocarbons through the kerogen-wet porosity;
- simulate movement of hydrocarbons through the water-wet porosity, the simulated movement through the water-wet porosity distinct from the simulated movement through the kerogen porosity;
- and
- display a result of the simulation of movement on the display device.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing a program that, when executed by a processor, causes the processor to:
- obtain an indication of kerogen-wet porosity of kerogen within a portion of a hydrocarbon formation;
- obtain an indication of water-wet porosity within the portion of the hydrocarbon formation;
- simulate movement of hydrocarbons through the kerogen-wet porosity;
- and
- simulate movement of hydrocarbons through the water-wet porosity, the simulated movement through the water-wet porosity distinct from the simulated movement through the kerogen-wet porosity.
