A method of restoring the functional properties of an electrochemical sensor comprising:
- providing an electrochemical system comprising an electrochemical sensor card comprising at least one electrochemical sensor;
- contacting the electrochemical sensor with a solution;
- and,
- applying an electrical potential of sufficient strength and sufficient duration to cause at least a portion of an electropolymerizable monomer in the solution to polymerize onto a polymeric membrane.

A method of restoring functional properties of an electrochemical sensor cartridge comprising:
- connecting the electrochemical sensor cartridge having an electrochemical sensor to an electrochemical sensor apparatus;
- adding an electropolymerizable monomer to a calibrating solution to form an electropolymerizable monomer solution;
- contacting the electrochemical sensor with the electropolymerizable monomer solution from the cartridge;
- and,
- applying an electrical potential of sufficient strength and sufficient duration to cause at least a portion of the electropolymerizable monomer solution to polymerize onto a polymeric membrane.
