Abstract
In a three phase transformer core, amorphous metal strips are wound into rings that are combined into frames and assembled to define cores with leg cross sections that have more than 4 sides to facilitate winding transformer windings onto the legs using winding tubes. The amorphous metal layers are secured relative to one another and the core made more rigid using resin, silicon steel layers included in the amorphous metal core, or by using strapping or tying devices.
Claims20
A three phase transformer core, comprising
- a continuous flux path configuration, wherein at least part of the core includes amorphous metal.
A method of improving the efficiency of three phase continuous flux path transformer cores, comprising
- winding multiple rings, at least one of the rings being wound at least partially from amorphous metal,
- forming three frames from the rings, and
- combining the frames into a core.
A method of forming a wide amorphous metal transformer core ring comprising winding two or more amorphous metal strips next to each other to define a wide combination ring made of the two or more adjacent rings, and securing the layers of amorphous material to each other and securing the adjacent rings of amorphous metal relative to each other by including one or more sets or of silicon steel layers, wherein the one or more sets of silicon steel layers are formed from a silicon steel that has a width corresponding to that of the combination ring.
