Abstract
Fabrics made for watersports and outerwear apparel, tents, sleeping bags and the like, in various composites, constructed such that there is at least one metal layer, forming a radiant barrier to reduce heat loss via radiation, and insulating this metal layer from conductive heat loss, and a process for its manufacture.
Claims56
An infra-red reflective composite comprising a closed cell foam layer sandwiched between at least two substrates, wherein at least one metal layer faces the closed cell foam layer.
A process for creating an infra-red composite comprising the steps of:
- sandwiching a closed cell foam layer between at least two substrates, wherein at least one metal layer faces the closed cell foam layer, wherein the closed cell foam layer comprises perforations in a pattern that creates gaps to expose a portion of the metal layer for infra red reflection while also providing mechanical separation of the metal layer from other external surfaces, and wherein said perforations are created by a mold prior to the closed cell foam layer being cut into sheets.
A process for creating an infra-red composite comprising the steps of:
- sandwiching a closed cell foam layer between at least two substrates, wherein at least one metal layer faces the closed cell foam layer, and wherein the closed cell foam layer is embossed or moulded in a pattern to create air gaps between the metal layer and the adjacent surface of the foam layer to expose the surface of the said metal layer for infra red reflection.
An article of clothing comprising an infra-red reflective composite which comprises a closed cell foam layer sandwiched between at least two substrates, wherein at least one metal layer faces the closed cell foam layer.
