Abstract
The invention relates to the use of an anabolic amino acid derivative stimulus acting in combination with vitamin D for the manufacture of a medicament or nutritional composition for the prevention and/or treatment of a loss of any one of muscle mass, muscle strength, muscle function, and physical function, or any combination thereof, in a mammal.

Method for preventing or treating a loss of any one of muscle mass, muscle strength, muscle function, and physical function, or any combination thereof, in an adult mammal, comprising administering to the adult mammal a medicament or nutritional composition, comprising an anabolic amino acid derivative stimulus acting in combination with vitamin D, which anabolic amino acid derivative comprises L-leucine in a free form.
Method for preventing or treating a loss of any one of muscle mass, muscle strength, muscle function, and physical function, or any combination thereof, in an adult mammal, comprising administering to the adult mammal a medicament or nutritional composition comprising as mutually active components:
- an anabolic amino acid derivative stimulus, which anabolic amino acid derivative stimulus comprises L-leucine in a free form;
- and
- vitamin D in an amount of 800 IU or more per daily dosage.

A liquid or spoonable nutritional composition comprising:
- i. not more than about 100 kcal of energy per 100 ml of liquid or spoonable nutritional composition,
- ii. at least about 10 g proteinaceous matter per 100 ml of liquid or spoonable nutritional composition, comprising at least about 80 weight % of whey protein, relative to the total proteinaceous matter,
- iii. at least about 1 g leucine per 100 ml of liquid or spoonable nutritional composition, of which at least about 20 weight % is in a free form, relative to the total amount of leucine,
- iv. at least about 400 IU of vitamin D per 100 ml of liquid or spoonable nutritional composition, and
- v. a source of fat and source of digestible carbohydrates.
A solid nutritional composition comprising:
- i. less than about 500 kcal of energy per 100 g of dry weight,
- ii. at least about 49 g proteinaceous matter per 100 g of dry weight of comprising at least about 80 weight % of whey protein, relative to the total proteinaceous matter,
- iii. at least about 5 g leucine per 100 g of dry weight of which at least about 20 weight % is in a free form, relative to the total leucine,
- iv. at least about 50 μg of vitamin D per 100 g of dry weight, and
- v. a source of fat and a source of digestible carbohydrates.
