Abstract
Tocopherol conjugates are disclosed that are useful as antioxidants or as pro-drug delivery vehicles. The conjugates are amphiphilic, and tend to localize at the interface between water domains and lipid domains. A prototype embodiment disclosed is an alpha tocopherol-linker-carnosine conjugate that has been designated VECAR.

The compound VECAR, wherein VECAR has the structure:
- wherein n is an integer from 8 to 18.
A compound having the structure:
- wherein:
- n is an integer from 1 to 18;
- R1=H or CH3, wherein any of the various R1 groups may be the same as or different from any of the other R1 groups;
- R2 is an antioxidant, drug moiety, precursor, label, probe, or reporter.
