Abstract
The invention describes novel chemiluminescence electrode devices and their novel properties to enable achieving luminescence signal by electrical excitation by cathodic or bipolar pulses in aqueous electrolyte solutions. These devices form a significant improvement in construction of cheap and reliable means for especially diagnosis of health conditions in point-of-need purposes.
Claims12
An electrochemiluminescent analytical device to determine an amount of an analyte, said device comprising electrode chip and a hot electrochemiluminescence instrument (HECL), wherein:
- a working electrode and a counter electrode are integrated on the chip, the electrodes serve as an anode and a cathode, and the anode and the cathode are connected to the HECL via pads providing an electronic contact;
- the anode and the cathode are constructed on same substrate, said substrate providing a basis of an electrode chip and said substrate being made of an insulating material or partially of conducting and partially of insulating material;
- one electrode is electrically conductive and the other electrode is coated with an insulating film, or optionally both electrodes are covered with said film;
- wherein during or after applying cathodic or bipolar pulses to the device from the HECL instrument a luminescence signal can be read from the device, said signal being proportional to the amount of the analyte.
