Abstract
A fiber testing instrument having a fiber loading station that is sized to accommodate a fiber sample within a desired size range, a fiber extraction device for extracting a portion of the fiber sample for a first battery of fiber tests, a fiber transport device for conveying at least the remaining portion of the fiber sample, and a micronaire chamber for receiving the conveyed fiber sample, where the micronaire chamber is sized to test any fiber sample within the desired size range.
Claims12
A fiber testing instrument comprising:
- a fiber loading station sized to accommodate a fiber sample within a desired size range,
- a fiber extraction device for extracting from the fiber loading station a portion of the fiber sample for a first set of fiber tests,
- a fiber transport device for conveying from the fiber loading station at least the remaining portion of the fiber sample, and
- a micronaire chamber for receiving the conveyed fiber sample from the fiber transport device, where the micronaire chamber is sized to test micronaire of any fiber sample within the desired size range.
A fiber testing instrument comprising:
- a fiber loading station for receiving a fiber sample,
- a first testing module for performing a first set of fiber tests on at least a portion of the fiber sample,
- a transport device for conveying the fiber sample from the fiber loading station to a second testing module, and
- the second testing module for performing micronaire testing on the fiber sample.
A method of testing fibers, comprising:
- receiving a fiber sample with a fiber loading station,
- performing a first set of fiber tests on an extracted portion of the fiber sample with a first testing module,
- conveying a remaining portion of the fiber sample from the fiber loading station to a second testing module with a transport device, and
- performing micronaire testing on the remaining portion of the fiber sample with the second testing module.
