Abstract
A system for protecting data stored in a memory of a removable data storage device is provided. The system includes a personal electronic device, a removable solid state data storage device operatively coupled to the personal electronic device, and a circuit configured to protect data stored in a memory of the data storage device in response to detecting impending removal of the data storage device from the personal electronic device.

- a personal electronic device;
- a removable solid state data storage device operatively coupled to the personal electronic device;
- and
- a circuit configured to protect data stored in a memory of the data storage device in response to detecting impending removal of the data storage device from the personal electronic device.
A removable data storage device comprising:
- a circuit configured to respond to detecting impending removal of the removable data storage device from a personal electronic device by protecting data stored in a memory of the removable data storage device.
A method for protecting data stored in a memory of a removable data storage device, comprising:
- detecting impending removal of the data storage device from a personal electronic device;
- and
- causing at least some of the data stored in a memory of the removable data storage device to be protected in response to detecting impending removal of the data storage device.
