Abstract
A predicted workload of a multi-tier application is determined for a defined period of time. A change in application capacity is determined for the predicted workload. A scaling strategy is dynamically selected for the change in application capacity, in which the scaling strategy including vertical scaling and horizontal scaling.
Claims9
A method of scaling comprising:
- determining, by a computing device, a predicted workload of a multi-tier application for a defined time period;
- determining, by the computing device, a change in application capacity for the predicted workload;
- and
- dynamically selecting, by the computing device, a scaling strategy for the change in application capacity, the scaling strategy including vertical scaling and horizontal scaling.

A method of scaling comprising:
- determining, by a computing device, a predicted workload of a multi-tier application for a defined time period;
- determining, by the computing device, a change in application capacity for the predicted workload;
- and
- dynamically selecting, by the computing device, a scaling strategy for the change in application capacity, the scaling strategy including implementing a plurality of virtual machines executing the multi-tier application, each of the plurality of virtual machines having generally equally configured resource allocations, and implementing at least one virtual machine having a lower resource allocation.
