Abstract
A predicted workload of a multi-tier application is determined for a defined period of time. A change in application capacity is determined for the predicted workload. A scaling strategy is dynamically selected for the change in application capacity, in which the scaling strategy including vertical scaling and horizontal scaling.

A computer program product including a computer readable medium having a plurality of instructions stored thereon, which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
- determining a predicted workload of a multi-tier application for a defined time period;
- determining a change in application capacity for the predicted workload;
- and
- dynamically selecting a scaling strategy for the change in application capacity, the scaling strategy including vertical scaling and horizontal scaling.
A system comprising:
- a processor;
- a memory architecture coupled with the processors;
- a first software module executable by the processor and the memory architecture, the first software module configured to determine a predicted workload of a multi-tier application for a defined time period;
- a second software module executable by the processor and the memory architecture, the second software module configured to determine a change in application capacity for the predicted workload;
- and
- a third software module executable by the processor and the memory architecture, the third software module configured to dynamically select a scaling strategy for the change in application capacity, the scaling strategy including vertical scaling and horizontal scaling.
