Abstract
An apparatus for locally controlling smooth muscle tone includes a first electrode for insertion into an artery; a barrier for preventing the first electrode from contacting an arterial wall; a second electrode; a power supply; and a controller for coupling the power supply to the electrodes. The controller is configured to cause the electrode to maintain a waveform for controlling polarization of smooth muscle tone.
Claims20
An apparatus, comprising:
- a catheter with at least one electrode configured to be fed into a femoral artery into a renal artery and operationally proximate to a nerve;
- a power supply;
- and
- an electronic controller configured to couple the power supply to the electrode, wherein the controller is configured to use the electrode to deliver a hypertension treatment.
A method for delivering a hypertension therapy, comprising:
- inserting at least one electrode into a renal artery and proximate a nerve;
- and
- delivering the hypertension therapy to the nerve using the at least one electrode.
A method for delivering a hypertension therapy, comprising:
- inserting at least one electrode into a femoral artery that feeds an arterial bed within a renal system and proximate a nerve;
- and
- delivering the hypertension therapy to the nerve using the at least one electrode.
