Systems and Methods of Delivering a Dilated Slurry to a Patient

A system for delivering to a patient a cell-slurry comprising a fluid and cells which are non-dissolvable or immiscible in the fluid, comprising:

• a container initially containing the cell-slurry and a supernate of the cell-slurry;
• a syringe adapted to contain the cell-slurry after dilation with the supernate;
• a fluid path between the syringe and the cell-slurry and the supernate in the container;
• a fluidizing system adapted to effect dilation of the cell-slurry with a portion of the supernate to form a dilated cell-slurry, the fluidizing system imparting agitating movement to the cell-slurry and the supernate in the container to effect dilation of the cell-slurry;
• a pressurizing mechanism adapted to create pressure in the syringe to cause the dilated cell-slurry contained within the container to flow into the syringe through the fluid path;
• and
• a control unit in communication with and adapted to control the fluidizing system and the pressurizing mechanism.

A system for delivering to a patient a cell-slurry comprising a fluid and cells which are non-dissolvable or immiscible in the fluid to a patient, comprising:

• a syringe adapted to contain the cell-slurry and a supernate of the cell-slurry, the syringe comprising a main body defining an outlet for delivering the cell-slurry to the patient, the syringe outlet moveable with respect to the syringe main body;
• a fluidizing system associated with the syringe outlet and adapted to effect dilation of the cell-slurry with a portion of the supernate to form a dilated cell-slurry, the fluidizing system adapted to impart movement of the syringe outlet with respect to the syringe main body to effect dilation of the cell-slurry in the syringe outlet;
• and
• a pressurizing mechanism adapted to create pressure in the syringe to cause the cell-slurry and the supernate contained within the syringe to flow for delivery to the patient.

A syringe comprising:

• a main body defining an outlet;
• a first plunger slidably positioned within the main body;
• a second plunger defining a first passage and a second passage, the second plunger being slidably positioned within the main body between the first plunger and the outlet;
• and
• an extending conduit having a first end toward the outlet from the second plunger and a second end in fluid connection with a first passage through the second plunger so that the conduit is in fluid connection with a volume between the second plunger and the first plunger,
• wherein the second passage is positioned to be in fluid connection with a volume forward of the second plunger, the second passage having a one-way valve in fluid connection therewith so that fluid can pass through the second plunger into the volume between the second plunger and the first plunger.
