Abstract
A process for producing acetic acid comprising the steps of reacting carbon monoxide and at least one of methanol and a methanol derivative in a first reactor under conditions effective to produce a crude acetic acid product; separating the crude acetic acid product into at least one derivative stream, at least one of the at least one derivative stream comprising residual carbon monoxide; and reacting at least a portion of the residual carbon monoxide with at least one of methanol and a methanol derivative over a metal catalyst in a second reactor to produce additional acetic acid.

A process for producing acetic acid, comprising
- reacting carbon monoxide and at least one of methanol and a methanol derivative in a first reactor under conditions effective to produce a crude acetic acid product;
- separating the crude acetic acid product into at least one derivative stream, at least one of the at least one derivative stream comprising residual carbon monoxide;
- and
- reacting at least a portion of the residual carbon monoxide with at least one of methanol and a methanol derivative over a metal catalyst in a second reactor to produce additional acetic acid.
A process for producing acetic acid, comprising:
- contacting at least one of a carbonylation reaction stream and a derivative thereof comprising from 10 mol % to 95 mol % carbon monoxide with at least one of methanol and a methanol derivative over a metal catalyst to produce an acetic acid composition.
A system for producing acetic acid comprising:
- a first reactor for reacting carbon monoxide and at least one of methanol and a methanol derivative to produce a crude acetic acid product;
- a separator for separating the crude acetic acid product into a plurality of derivative streams, at least one of which comprises residual carbon monoxide;
- and
- a second reactor for reacting at least a portion of the residual carbon monoxide with at least one of methanol and a methanol derivative to produce additional acetic acid;
- wherein the second reactor comprises a metal catalyst.
A process for producing acetic acid, the process comprising:
- contacting a carbon monoxide feed and at least one of methanol and a methanol derivative under conditions effective to produce a reaction product comprising a crude acetic acid product and a vent stream comprising less than 60 mol % carbon monoxide.
A process for producing acetic acid, the process comprising:
- contacting a carbon monoxide feed stream comprising carbon monoxide and having a carbon monoxide partial pressure of less than 95% of the total pressure of the carbon monoxide feed stream with at least one of methanol and a methanol derivative over a solid phase metal catalyst to produce an acetic acid composition.
A system for producing acetic acid comprising:
- a reactor for contacting a carbon monoxide feed stream comprising carbon monoxide and having a carbon monoxide partial pressure of less than 95% of the total pressure of the carbon monoxide feed stream with at least one of methanol and a methanol derivative to produce an acetic acid composition,
- wherein the reactor comprises a solid phase metal catalyst disposed in a catalyst bed.
A process for producing acetic acid, the process comprising:
- contacting a carbon monoxide feed and at least one of methanol and a methanol derivative under conditions effective to produce an acetic acid product, wherein the overall conversion of carbon monoxide is greater than 90%.
