Abstract
Methods of producing terephthalic acid are described. The methods involve using a substantially pure 4-CBA stream. The substantially pure 4-CBA stream, a solvent comprising an ionic liquid and optionally a carboxylic acid, a bromine source, a catalyst, and an oxidizing agent are contacted to produce a product comprising terephthalic acid.
Claims20
A process for producing terephthalic acid comprising:
- providing a substantially pure 4-CBA stream;
- contacting the substantially pure 4-CBA stream, a solvent comprising an ionic liquid, a bromine source, a catalyst, and an oxidizing agent to produce a product comprising terephthalic acid.
A process for producing terephthalic acid comprising:
- providing a substantially pure 4-CBA stream, wherein the substantially pure 4-CBA stream is produced by a process in which the 4-CBA is maintained at a level of at least about 80% by weight or more;
- contacting a solvent comprising an ionic liquid, a bromine source, a catalyst, the substantially pure 4-CBA stream of the providing step, and an oxidizing agent, to produce a product comprising terephthalic acid.
