Abstract
Glycopeptide antibiotics, such as oritavancin, demonstrate significant activity against a wide range of bacteria. Methods for the treatment, prophylaxis and prevention of bacterial infection and disease in animals, including humans, using a single dose of oritavancin over the course of therapy, are described.
Claims20
A method of treating a bacterial infection in a subject, comprising administering one dose of a therapeutically effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising oritavancin, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent, over a course of therapy to a subject having a bacterial infection, thereby treating a bacterial infection in a subject.
A method of treating a bacterial infection in a subject, comprising administering one dose of a pharmaceutical composition comprising oritavancin, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent, over a course of therapy to a subject having a bacterial infection, in an amount sufficient to achieve a maximum plasma concentration (Cmax) of oritavancin of not less than about 20 μg/mL.
A method of treating a bacterial infection in a subject, comprising administering one dose of a pharmaceutical composition comprising oritavancin, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent, over a course of therapy to a subject having a bacterial infection, in an amount sufficient to achieve an area under the concentration curve (AUC 0-24 hr) of oritavancin of at least about 20 μg*h/mL.
