A substantially animal protein free (“APF”) process for purifying a Clostridial toxin comprising the step of sequentially contacting a plurality of chromatography resins with an aqueous medium containing a Clostridial toxin, wherein the plurality of chromatography resins utilized is between two to four chromatography resins, and wherein a first chromatography resin is a cation exchange resin, a second chromatography resinis a hydrophobic interaction resin, and a third chromatography resin is a mixed mode resin, thereby obtaining a purified Clostridial toxin.
