Abstract
The present invention relates to a process for applying optical brightening agent (OBA) to a sheet of paper or paperboard substrate. The process comprises the step of spraying an aqueous composition comprising an optical brightening agent onto at least one surface of a sized paperboard substrate to form a treated paperboard substrate. The treated paperboard substrate includes a layer of OBA on at least one surface of the paper or paperboard substrate in which the brightness of the treated paper or paperboard substrate is greater than the sized paper or paperboard substrate before treating thereof.
Claims17
A process for applying optical brightening agent to a sized paper or paperboard substrate, the process comprising:
- spraying an aqueous composition comprising an optical brightening agent (OBA) onto at least one surface of the sized paper or paperboard substrate having a surface TAPPI brightness of (x) to form a treated sized paper or paperboard substrate having a layer of OBA on the at least one surface of the sized paper or paperboard substrate having a surface TAPPI brightness of (y), wherein (y) is greater than (x).
A paper or paperboard comprising:
- a substrate comprising pulp fibers;
- a layer of starch coated onto a surface of the substrate;
- and
- a layer comprising an optical brightening agent (OBA) sprayed onto at least one surface of the layer of starch.
A paper or paperboard comprising:
- a substrate comprising pulp fibers and an optical brightening agent wherein the optical brightening agent is predominately at or near a surface of the substrate.
