Abstract
Aspects of the invention provide methods for treatment of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and associated liver fibrosis. In particular, aspects of the invention relate to the use of a therapeutic formulation comprising a galacto-rhamnogalacturonate compound for the treatment of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and associated liver fibrosis.
Claims46
A method comprising the steps of:
- obtaining a composition for parenteral or enteral administration comprising a galacto-rhamnogalacturonate in an acceptable pharmaceutical carrier;
- administering to a subject in need thereof an effective dose of the composition that results in at least one of the following:
- reduction of at least one point in severity of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis grading scoring systems, reduction of the level of serum markers of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis activity, reduction of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis disease activity or reduction in the medical consequences of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis,
- wherein the subject has at least one of the following:
- fatty liver, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with liver fibrosis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with cirrhosis, or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
Use of a galacto-rhamnogalacturonate in the manufacture of a pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of fatty liver, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with liver fibrosis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with cirrhosis, or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
An admixture having a galacto-rhamnogalacturonate and a therapeutic agent for the treatment of fatty liver, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with liver fibrosis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with cirrhosis, or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
Use of an admixture having a galacto-rhamnogalacturonate and a therapeutic agent in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier in the manufacture of a pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of fatty liver, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with liver fibrosis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with cirrhosis, or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
