Radio interface reconfiguration

User equipment operable to request a reconfiguration of a radio interface between said user equipment and at least one base station in a wireless communications system, said user equipment comprising:

• determining logic operable to determine said reconfiguration to be made by said at least one base station;
• encoding logic operable to encode an indication of said reconfiguration together with an indicator in a reconfiguration request message, said indicator indicating a response required by at least one recipient base station on receipt of said reconfiguration request message;
• and
• transmission logic operable to transmit said reconfiguration request message from said user equipment.

A method of receiving a request to reconfigure a radio interface between user equipment and a base station in a wireless communications system, the method comprising:

• receiving a reconfiguration request message from said user equipment;
• decoding an indication of said reconfiguration together with an indicator from said reconfiguration request message, said indicator indicating a response required by said base station on receipt of said reconfiguration request message;
• and
• determining from said indicator whether a response is required to said reconfiguration request message.

A base station operable to receive a request to reconfigure a radio interface between user equipment and a base station in a wireless communications system, the base station comprising:

• reception logic operable to receive a reconfiguration request message from said user equipment;
• decoding logic operable to decode an indication of said reconfiguration together with an indicator from said reconfiguration request message, said indicator indicating a response required by said base station on receipt of said reconfiguration request message;
• and
• determining logic operable to determine from said indicator whether a response is required to said reconfiguration request message.
