## Abstract

A backup method may include discontinuing a process of a working system virtual machine (VM) operating within a physical machine (PM) of a processing apparatus, first duplicating data of a state of the working system VM in a memory of the PM, as a duplicating system VM, second duplicating data of contents of a working system virtual recording medium used to realize the working system VM, in a duplicating system virtual recording medium forming the duplicating system VM, within a storage apparatus of the processing apparatus, and resuming the process of the working system VM, The discontinuing and the first resuming may maintain consistency between the data in the memory and the storage apparatus.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A backup method to backup data of an information processing apparatus comprising a storage apparatus and a physical, machine that includes a memory, the backup method comprising:
discontinuing a process of a working system virtual machine operating within the physical machine;
first duplicating data of a state of the working system virtual machine in the memory, as a duplicating system virtual machine;
second duplicating data of contents of a working system virtual recording medium, used to realize the working system virtual machine, in a duplicating system virtual recording medium forming the duplicating system virtual machine, within the storage apparatus; and
first resuming the process of the working system virtual machine,
wherein the discontinuing and the first resuming maintain consistency between the data in the memory and the data in the storage apparatus.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The backup method as claimed in claim 1, further comprising:
storing data of the memory and data of the storage apparatus into a backup storage within the storage apparatus in a single store operation.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The backup method as claimed in claim 1, further comprising:
cutting off an external network connection of the duplicating system virtual machine after the first resuming;
second resuming the process of the duplicate system virtual, machine after the cutting off;
ending the process of the duplicate system virtual machine; and
storing contents of the duplicate system virtual recording medium into the backup storage within the storage apparatus.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The backup method as claimed in claim 3, further comprising:
switching a virtual recording medium at a connecting destination of the duplicate system virtual machine to a duplicate system virtual recording medium different from the working system virtual recording medium, before or after the cutting off.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The backup method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first duplicating duplicates the data of an operating state of the working system virtual machine in the memory, as the duplicating system virtual machine, by a COW (Copy On Write).

### Claim 6

An information processing apparatus comprising;
a physical machine including a memory; and
a storage apparatus;
wherein the physical machine includes
a discontinue mechanism configured to discontinue a process of a working system virtual machine operating within the physical machine;
a first duplicating mechanism configured to duplicate data of a state of the working system virtual machine in the memory, as a duplicating system virtual, machine; and
a first resume mechanism configured to resume the process of the working system virtual machine,
wherein the storage apparatus includes
a second duplicate mechanism configured to duplicate data of contents of a working system virtual recording medium used to realize the working system virtual machine, in a duplicating system virtual, recording medium forming the duplicating system virtual machine, within the storage apparatus,
wherein the discontinue mechanism and the first resume mechanism maintain consistency between the data in the memory and the data in the storage apparatus.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The information processing apparatus as claimed in claim 6, wherein the physical machine further comprises:
a store mechanism configure to store data of the memory and data of the storage apparatus into a backup storage within the storage apparatus in a single store operation.

### Claim 8 (depends on 6)

The information processing apparatus as claimed in claim 6, wherein the physical machine further comprises:
a cutoff mechanism configured to cutoff an external network connection of the duplicating system virtual machine after the resume of the first resume mechanism;
a second resume mechanism configured to resume the process of the duplicate system virtual machine after the cutoff by the cutoff mechanism;
an end mechanism configured to end the process of the duplicate system virtual machine; and
a store mechanism to store contents of the duplicate system virtual recording medium into the backup storage within the storage apparatus.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The information processing apparatus as claimed in claim 8, wherein the physical machine further comprises:
a switch mechanism configured to switch a virtual recording medium at a connecting destination of the duplicate system virtual machine to a duplicate system virtual recording medium different from the working system virtual recording medium, before or after the cutoff by the cutoff mechanism.

### Claim 10 (depends on 6)

The information processing apparatus as claimed in claim 6, wherein the first duplicate mechanism duplicates the data of an operating state of the working system virtual machine in the memory, as the duplicating system virtual machine, by a COW (Copy On Write).

### Claim 11

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having stored therein a program for causing a computer to execute a backup process comprising:
discontinuing a process of a working system virtual machine operating within a physical machine;
first duplicating data of a state of the working system virtual machine in a duplicating system virtual, machine in a memory of the physical machine, as a duplicating system virtual machine;
second duplicating data of contents of a working system virtual recording medium used to realize the working system virtual machine, in a duplicating system virtual recording medium forming the duplicating system virtual machine, within a storage apparatus; and
first resuming the process of the working system virtual machine,
