## Abstract

Medical device delivery systems and methods for making and using medical device delivery systems are disclosed. An example medical device delivery system may include an outer sheath. An inner catheter may be disposed within the outer sheath. The inner catheter may have a distal end. A tube extension may be coupled to the distal end of the inner catheter and may extend distally therefrom. The tube extension may be configured to shift between a first elongated configuration and a second shortened configuration.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A medical device delivery system, comprising:
an outer sheath;
an inner catheter disposed within the outer sheath, the inner catheter having a distal end;
a tube extension coupled to the distal end of the inner catheter and extending distally therefrom; and
wherein the tube extension is configured to shift between a first elongated configuration and a second shortened configuration.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the tube extension includes a coil.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The system of claim 2, wherein the coil has an open pitch when the tube extension is in the elongated configuration and the coil has a closed pitch when the tube extension is in the shortened configuration.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the tube extension includes a resilient polymer.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The system of claim 4, wherein the resilient polymer has a first thickness when the tube extension is in the elongated configuration and the coil has a second thickness greater than the first thickness when the tube extension is in the shortened configuration.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the tube extension includes a tubular member having a plurality of slots formed therein.

### Claim 7 (depends on 7)

The system of claim 7, wherein at least some of the slots are open when the tube extension is in the elongated configuration and wherein at least some of the slots are closed when the tube extension is in the shortened configuration.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the tube extension has a nose cone attached thereto.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the tube extension has a distal end that is free of a nose cone.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, further comprising a valve implant releasably coupled to the inner catheter.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The system of claim 10, wherein the valve implant includes a replacement aortic valve.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the outer sheath is configured to shift the nose cone extension between the elongated configuration and the shortened configuration.

### Claim 13

A medical device delivery system, comprising:
an outer sheath;
an inner catheter disposed within the outer sheath, the inner catheter having a distal portion;
a valve implant releasably coupled to the distal portion of the inner catheter;
a tube extension coupled to the distal portion of the inner catheter and extending distally therefrom; and
wherein the tube extension has a distal end that is free of a nose cone.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13, wherein the tube extension has a constant outer diameter.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13, wherein the outer sheath is configured to shift between a sheathed configuration where the implant is sheathed within the outer sheath and a retracted configuration where the outer sheath is proximally refracted such that the implant is no longer sheathed within the outer sheath.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

The system of claim 15, wherein the distal end of the tube extension extends to a position proximal of a distal end of the outer sheath when the outer sheath is in the sheathed configuration.

### Claim 17 (depends on 15)

The system of claim 15, wherein the distal end of the tube extension extends to a position proximal of a distal end of the outer sheath when the outer sheath is in the retracted configuration.

### Claim 18

A medical device delivery system, comprising:
an outer sheath having a distal portion;
wherein the distal portion is configured to shift between a tapered configuration where the distal portion is deflected radially inward and an open configuration;
an inner catheter disposed within the outer sheath, the inner catheter having a distal end; and
a valve implant releasably coupled to the distal end of the inner catheter.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

The system of claim 18, wherein the inner catheter is free of a tubular extension coupled to the distal end of the inner catheter and extending distally therefrom.

### Claim 20 (depends on 18)

The system of claim 18, wherein the outer sheath shifts from the tapered configuration to the open configuration when the outer sheath is proximally retracted relative to the inner catheter.
