## Abstract

An improved low pressure low speed concrete polishing apparatus and method of cleaning and polishing a floor is used with a conventional rotary flooring machine. A polishing pad has interchangeable polymer strips that are slideably received within the housing of the pad. The polymer strips have an abrasive material embedded therein which collectively work to polish the floor while cleaning the floor during normal low speed floor cleaning conditions.

## Claims

### Claim at position 1

1-20. (canceled)

### Claim 21

A method of polishing a floor using a floor cleaning machine comprising:
operating the floor cleaning machine during low speed and low pressure conditions and rotating a first abrasive brush; and
operating the flooring cleaning machine during low speed and low pressure conditions and rotating a second abrasive brush,
wherein said brushes are progressively changed so as to provide a smoother floor finish.

### Claim 22 (depends on 21)

The method as claimed in claim 21, wherein the grit size of each abrasive brush is different.

### Claim 23 (depends on 21)

The method as claimed in claim 21, wherein the first abrasive brush is made by the following steps:
a. making a flexible polymer portion;
b. coating the flexible polymer portion with a material;
c. adding an aggregate to the coating; and
d. curing the coating.

### Claim 24 (depends on 21)

The method as claimed in claim 21, wherein the first abrasive brush is made by the following steps:
a. making a metal strip; and
b. applying an abrasive material to the metal strip.

### Claim 25 (depends on 21)

The method as claimed in claim 21, wherein the step of operating the floor cleaning machine includes rotating a shaft of the machine at a speed in the range of 150-200 revolutions per minute.

### Claim 26 (depends on 21)

The method as claimed in claim 21, wherein the step of operating the floor cleaning machine includes rotating a shaft of the machine and applying a pressure in the range of 125-200 pounds per square inch.

### Claim 27 (depends on 21)

The method as claimed in claim 21, further comprising the step of applying water to a floor.

### Claim 28 (depends on 21)

The method as claimed in claim 21, further comprising periodically rotating one of said abrasive brushes against a floor for maintenance purposes.

### Claim 29

A method of polishing a floor with a low pressure floor cleaning machine, comprising:
rotating a first abrasive brush against a floor at a speed between approximately 150-200 revolutions per minute and at a pressure of between 125-200 pounds per square inch; and
rotating a second abrasive brush against a floor at a speed between approximately 150-200 revolutions per minute and at a pressure of between 125-200 pounds per square inch,
wherein the grit size of the second abrasive brush is finer than the grit size of the first abrasive brush.

### Claim 30 (depends on 29)

The method as claimed in claim 29, further comprising periodically rotating the second abrasive brush against a floor for maintenance purposes.

### Claim 31 (depends on 29)

The method as claimed in claim 29, further comprising rotating a third abrasive brush that has a grit size that is finer than the grit size of the first abrasive brush.

### Claim 32 (depends on 29)

The method as claimed in claim 29, wherein the first abrasive brush is made by the following steps:
a. Providing a flexible polymer portion; and
b. affixing an aggregate to an outer surface of the flexible polymer portion.

### Claim 33 (depends on 29)

The method as claimed in claim 29, wherein each abrasive brush is made by the following process:
a. producing an elongated metal strip;
b. securing the metal strip to an attachment portion, the attachment portion being operable to be connected to a floor cleaning machine; and
c. coating the metal strip with an aggregate material comprised of a desirable grit size.

### Claim 34

A method of manufacturing an abrasive brush for use with a floor polishing machine, comprising:
extruding a strip of material, the strip of material having a mounting portion and a distal end, the mounting portion having a geometric shape that permits the strip to be secured to said floor polishing machine; and
applying an abrasive coating with a first grit size to the distal end of the strip,
whereby said distal end of said strip is operable to engage a floor in a circular pattern as the floor polishing machine operates.

### Claim 35 (depends on 34)

The method as claimed in claim 34, whereby the strip of material is formed from the group comprised of nylon, aluminum oxide and diamonds.

### Claim 36 (depends on 34)

The method as claimed in claim 34, whereby the strip of material is formed from a molded sheet.

### Claim 37 (depends on 34)

The method as claimed in claim 34, whereby the strip of material is formed of a continuous sheet of individual strips.

### Claim 38 (depends on 34)

The method as claimed in claim 34, whereby the strip of material is formed from an extruded sheet.

### Claim 39 (depends on 34)

The method as claimed in claim 34, further comprising securing a rounded member on the distal end of the strip.

### Claim 40 (depends on 34)

The method as claimed in claim 34, further comprising applying a coating to the strip with a second grit size.
