## Abstract

The invention relates to a device that allows a target nucleic acid to be detected in a homogeneous batch using two different detection formats. The device comprises at least two heatable sample blocks and a reaction cartridge which contains a base (1, 15) and at least one film (3, 4) sealing the base (1, 15), wherein the film (3, 4) comprises a surface (13, 14) that is not connected to the base (1, 15) and said surface (13, 14) forms a volume (16) for media transfer or at least one reaction chamber (10). The device can be used in particular for mobile gene diagnostics under field conditions.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A device for detecting nucleic acids, comprising at least two heatable sample blocks and one reaction cartridge, which contains a base body and at least one film sealing the base body, wherein the film has a face not joined to the base body and this face forms a volume for media transfer or at least one reaction chamber.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

A device according to claim 1, characterized in that the sample blocks have a convexity and thereby a constriction is formed in at least one reaction chamber.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

A device according to claim 1, characterized in that the thickness of the film is smaller than 100 μm.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

A device according to claim 1, characterized in that the reaction cartridge is arranged perpendicular to the sample blocks.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

A device according to claim 1, characterized in that the distance of the sealing films from one another after the sample blocks have been pressed into place is dictated by the thickness of the base body and the geometry of the sample blocks.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

A device according to claim 1, characterized in that the sample blocks do not bear upon one another directly with their convexity while a cartridge is not in use, and the pressing force is achieved by a spring mechanism.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

A device according to claim 1, characterized in that a lateral-flow strip for immunological detection of an amplification/hybridization reaction for nucleic acids is disposed in one reaction chamber.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

A device according to claim 1, characterized in that an instrument for input of light through the sealing film into the cartridge, preferably by means of an optical fiber, is disposed on one sample block and a passage for this light to a detector is disposed in the other sample block.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

A device according to claim 1, characterized in that an instrument for input of an exciting wavelength in one sample block by means of an optical fiber is disposed in the cartridge and a passage to a detector, in which the fluorescence response of the sample is registered, is provided via the identical fiber or a 2nd fiber, in the same sample block or another sample block.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

A device according to claim 1, characterized in that the two sample blocks can be forced onto the reaction space with a force of at least 5 N, preferably at least 30 N.
