## Abstract

The present invention relates to a process for treating sol-gel capsules comprising a cosmetic or pharmaceutical active material with an inorganic material, as well as sol-gel capsules produced by a process according to the present invention and formulations comprising such sol-gel capsules.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A process for treating sol-gel capsules comprising an encapsulated cosmetic or pharmaceutical active material with an inorganic material, characterized in that the treatment comprises the following steps:
a) providing a suspension of sol-gel capsules,
b) addition of one or more water-soluble inorganic precursor compounds,
c) precipitation of the inorganic material onto the capsules' surfaces,
d) optionally repeating steps b) and c) one or more times, and
e) optionally isolating and/or drying the treated sol-gel capsules.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

A process according to claim 1, characterized in that the sol-gel capsules are silica capsules.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

A process according to claim 1, characterized in that the inorganic material is selected from the group consisting of S1O2, TIO2, ZnO and/or Sn02.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

A process according to claim 1, characterized in that the one or more inorganic precursor compounds of step b) are selected from the group consisting of Na2Si03, TiCI, ZnCI2 and/or SnCI4.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

A process according to claim 1, characterized in that in step b) an acid or base is added.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

A process according to claim 1, characterized in that the temperature of step b) and c) is between 30 and 120° C.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

A process according to claim 1, characterized that the pH of step c) is between 1 and 9.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

A process according to claim 1, characterized in that the sol-gel capsules are first treated with S1O2, followed by the treatment with Sn02 and/or followed by the treatment with TIO2.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

A process according to claim 1, characterized in that the encapsulated cosmetic or pharmaceutical active material comprises one or more UV filters.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

A process according to claim 9, characterized in that the one or more UV filters are selected from 3-(4′-methylbenzylidene)-dl-camphor, 1-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)propane-1,3-dione, 4-isopropyl-dibenzoylmethane, 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone, octyl methoxycinnamate, 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexyl salicylate, 2-ethylhexyl 4-(dimethylamino)benzoate, 2-ethylhexyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate, 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulfonic acid and the potassium, sodium and triethanolamine salts thereof.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

A process according to claim 1, characterized in that the sol-gel capsules provided in step a) are obtained in a process, wherein
in step a1), an oil-in-water emulsion of a hydrophobic solution comprising the sol-gel precursor and at least one cosmetic or pharmaceutical active material is prepared in an aqueous solution,
in step b1), the emulsion from step a1) is mixed with another aqueous solution in order to accelerate the condensation polymerisation reaction,
optionally in step c1) reaction products are separated off from the sol-gel precursor, and the sol-gel capsules are isolated.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

Sol-gel capsules comprising an encapsulated cosmetic or pharmaceutical active material produced by a process according to claim 1.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

A formulation comprising sol-gel capsules according to claim 12.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

A formulation according to claim 13, characterized in that it comprises 5 to 80% by weight of sol-gel capsules.

### Claim 15 (depends on 12)

Process for the preparation of a formulation, said process comprising mixing the sol-gel capsules according to claim 12 with further ingredients.
