## Abstract

Disclosed herein is a non-contact charging system. The non-contact charging system detects a portable terminal, a battery pack or a foreign object that is placed on the pad of a non-contact charger, and effectively monitors and controls its charging state through the detection, thus preventing such a foreign object placed on the pad from being heated by induction heating, and further causes anions to be generated during the charging of the portable terminal or the battery pack, thus sterilizing bacteria on a terminal and keeping ambient air thereof fresh.

## Claims

### Claim at position 1

1-52. (canceled)

### Claim 53

A charger which wirelessly charges an electronic device, comprising:
a wireless charging pad comprising a rectification portion configured to rectify a power, and a coil portion configured to wirelessly transfer the power to an object for receiving wireless power;
a current detection unit configured to detect an external object approaching the wireless charging pad, and to output a comparison value which compares a predetermined reference current with a changed current resulting from an approach of the external object to the wirelessly charging pad; and
a processing unit configured to determine, using the comparison value, whether the external object is the object for receiving wireless power.

### Claim 54 (depends on 53)

The charger according to claim 53, further comprising a converter configured to adjust the waveform of voltage and current using output signals in accordance with the processing unit.

### Claim 55 (depends on 53)

The charger according to claim 53, wherein the wireless charging pad further comprises a primary core unit in which the coil portion is disposed.

### Claim 56 (depends on 53)

The charger according to claim 53, wherein the coil portion comprises a plurality of coils which are arranged sided by side in the wireless charging pad.

### Claim 57 (depends on 53)

The charger according to claim 53, wherein the processing unit is further configured to determine when a foreign object approaches the wireless charging pad, by detecting an abnormal operation or an excessive temperature.

### Claim 58 (depends on 53)

The charger according to claim 53, wherein the current detection unit comprises a differential amplifier, and a comparator/low-frequency filter coupled to the output terminal of the differential amplifier.

### Claim 59

A method of detecting an external object at a wireless charging pad, comprising:
detecting a changed current resulting from an approach of the external object to the wireless charging pad;
obtaining an external object-presented current from the changed current;
comparing a predetermined current with the external object-presented current; and
determining whether the external object is an object capable of receiving wireless power from the wirelessly charging pad.

### Claim 60 (depends on 59)

The method according to claim 59, wherein the wireless charging pad comprises a primary core unit, the primary core unit comprising a coil portion, and the object capable of receiving wireless power comprises a secondary core unit.

### Claim 61 (depends on 59)

The method according to claim 59, wherein the wireless charging pad comprises a coil portion, the coil portion comprising a plurality of coils which are arranged sided by side in the wireless charging pad.

### Claim 62 (depends on 59)

The method according to claim 59, further comprising:
determining whether a foreign object approaches the wirelessly charging pad by detecting an abnormal operation or an excessive temperature.
