## Abstract

An automotive side view mirror attachment assembly includes first and second loading surfaces for engaging a mounting member of a side view mirror assembly, wherein the first and second loading surfaces are disposed within an interior of a vehicle door, such that, in assembly, a mounting member of the mirror assembly is substantially or fully disposed within the interior of a vehicle door, thereby minimizing the overall minor footprint by eliminating the need for an external base for attachment of a mirror assembly to a vehicle door.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An internal mirror-mounting system for a vehicle door, comprising:
a mirror-mounting reinforcement member operably coupled to an inner panel of the vehicle door and having a depression with reinforcement apertures disposed thereon providing a first loading surface;
a belt reinforcement member operably coupled to the mirror-mounting reinforcement member having a mounting aperture aligned with the reinforcement apertures; and
a reinforcement flange disposed about a rim of the mounting aperture providing a second loading surface.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The internal mirror-mounting system as set forth in claim 1, including:
a mirror assembly having at least one mounting member adapted to engage both the first loading surface and the second loading surface.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The internal mirror-mounting system as set forth in claim 2, wherein:
the at least one mounting member further comprises a channel adapted to receive a fastener.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The internal mirror-mounting system as set forth in claim 3, wherein:
the at least one mounting member is coupled to the first loading surface with a fastener which is operably coupled to the channel of the at least one mounting member and further coupled to at least one of the reinforcement apertures disposed on the first loading surface.

### Claim 5 (depends on 2)

The internal mirror-mounting system as set forth in claim 2, wherein:
the reinforcement flange tapers inwardly to provide a wedged secondary loading surface.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The internal mirror-mounting system as set forth in claim 5, wherein:
the mounting member wedgingly engages the wedged secondary loading surface.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The internal mirror-mounting system as set forth in claim 1, wherein:
the mirror-mounting system is substantially disposed within an interior of the vehicle door.

### Claim 8

An internal mirror-mounting system for a vehicle door, comprising:
a mirror-mounting reinforcement member operably coupled to an inner panel of the vehicle door and having an indented mirror-mounting surface with reinforcement apertures disposed thereon providing a first loading surface;
a belt reinforcement member operably coupled to the mirror-mounting reinforcement member having a mounting aperture aligned with the first loading surface; and
a reinforcement flange disposed about the mounting aperture providing a second loading surface.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The internal mirror-mounting system as set forth in claim 8, including:
a mirror assembly having at least one mounting member adapted to engage both the first loading surface and the second loading surface.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The internal mirror-mounting system as set forth in claim 9, wherein:
the at least one mounting member further comprises a channel adapted to receive a fastener for operably coupling the at least one mounting member to the first loading surface, wherein the fastener is operably coupled to the channel of the mounting member and at least one of the reinforcement apertures disposed on the first loading surface.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The internal mirror-mounting system as set forth in claim 9, wherein:
the reinforcement flange tapers inwardly to provide a wedged second loading surface, and further wherein the mounting member wedgingly engages the wedged second loading surface in assembly.

### Claim 12 (depends on 8)

The internal mirror-mounting system as set forth in claim 8, wherein:
the mirror-mounting system is substantially disposed within an interior of the vehicle door.

### Claim 13

A mirror-mounting system for a vehicle door, comprising:
a mirror-mounting reinforcement member including a first portion laterally spaced apart from a second portion, wherein the first portion includes a primary loading surface;
a connecting member connecting the first portion and second portion, wherein the connecting member defines a secondary loading surface;
a mirror assembly having a mounting member adapted to engage the primary loading surface and wedgingly engage the secondary loading surface.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The mirror-mounting system as set forth in claim 13, wherein:
the connecting member is tapered from the second portion to the first portion, thereby defining a wedged secondary loading surface for wedgingly engaging the mounting member.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The mirror-mounting system as set forth in claim 14, wherein:
the mounting member further comprises a channel adapted to receive a fastener for operably coupling the mounting member to the primary loading surface, wherein the fastener is operably coupled to the channel of the mounting member and a mounting aperture disposed on the primary loading surface.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

The mirror-mounting system as set forth in claim 15, wherein:
the mirror-mounting reinforcement member and connecting member are substantially disposed in an interior of the vehicle door in assembly.
