## Abstract

An emergency stop device for a rotary platform (1) of milking parlour for a milking parlour that includes at least one component (10, 13a) arranged beside an edge portion (1a, 1b) of the platform (1). The emergency stop device includes a detecting element (13b) adapted to initiate an emergency stop of the rotary platform (1) in a case of an object being detected in a detecting area (13b1) located beside the edge portion (1a, 1b) of the platform (1) at an upstream distance (D) from the component (10, 13a) with respect to the rotary direction of the platform (1). The upstream distance (D) is longer than an estimated stopping distance (d) of the edge portion (1b) when the platform (1) is emergency stopped.

## Claims

### Claim at position 1

1-15. (canceled)

### Claim 16

An emergency stop device for a rotary platform (1) in a milking parlour, the emergency stop device comprising:
a component (10, 13a) arranged beside an edge portion (1a, 1b) of the platform (1); and
a detecting element with a detecting area (13b1),
wherein the detecting area (13b1) is located beside the edge portion (1a, 1b) of the platform (1) at an upstream distance (D) from said component (10, 13a) with respect to a rotary motion direction of the platform (1),
wherein said upstream distance (D) is longer than an estimated stopping distance (d) of said edge portion (1a, 1b) when the platform (1) is emergency stopped, and
wherein the detecting element comprises a movable unit (13b) movably arranged, in a direction substantially parallel to a direction of motion of a nearest located part of the edge portion (1a, 1b), and the detecting element initiates an emergency stop of the rotary platform (1) when an object displaces the movable unit (13b) from a first position (p1) in the direction substantially parallel to the direction of motion of the nearest located part of the edge portion (1a, 1b).

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The emergency stop device according to claim 16, wherein the detecting area (13b1) has a vertical edge portion (13b2) arranged at least as close from a vertical axis (v) through the nearest edge portion (1a, b) of the platform (1) as all surfaces (13a1) of the component (13a) are located from the vertical axis (v) through the nearest edge portion (1a, b) of the platform (1).

### Claim 18 (depends on 16)

The emergency stop device according to claim 16, wherein,
the movable unit (13b) comprises a contact surface (13b1) defining at least a part of the detecting area when the movable unit (13b) is in the first position (p1), and
at least a part of the contact surface (13b1) is perpendicular to the direction of motion of the nearest located part of the edge portion (1a, 1b) of the platform (1).

### Claim 19 (depends on 16)

The emergency stop device according to claim 16, further comprising:
a stationary unit (13a) and supporting element providing a movable support of the movable unit (13b) in relation to the stationary unit (13a).

### Claim 20 (depends on 19)

The emergency stop device according to claim 19, wherein the supporting element comprises at least one rolling member (30) and a rail member (34) arranged in contact with said at least one rolling member (30).

### Claim 21 (depends on 16)

The emergency stop device according to claim 16, wherein the emergency stop device comprises a maintaining element maintaining the movable unit (13b) in the first position (p1) by a first force.

### Claim 22 (depends on 21)

The emergency stop device according to claim 21, wherein said maintaining element acts on the movable unit (13b) with a second force when the moving member (13b) has been moved from the first position (p1), the second force being less than the first force.

### Claim 23 (depends on 16)

The emergency stop device according to claim 16, wherein,
the component is a robot arm (10) of the milking parlour, and
the detecting area (13b1) is located at a distance (D) from the robot arm (10).

### Claim 24 (depends on 16)

The emergency stop device according to claim 16, wherein,
the component is a stationary post element (13a) of a fence arrangement, and
the detecting area (13b1) is located at a distance (D) from the stationary post element (13a).

### Claim 25 (depends on 24)

The emergency stop device according to claim 24, further comprising:
a light beam emitting member (17) supported by the post element (13a), the light beam emitting member (17) emitting at least one light beam forming a light beam barrier (19) of the fence arrangement.

### Claim 26 (depends on 25)

The emergency stop device according to claim 25, wherein when the movable unit (13b) is displaced from the first position (p1) in the direction substantially parallel to a direction of motion of the nearest located part of the edge portion (1a, 1b), the movable unit (13b) breaks the at least one light beam of the light beam barrier (19).

### Claim 27 (depends on 24)

The emergency stop device according the claim 24, wherein the movable unit (13b) comprises an outer casing (43) which substantially encloses the stationary post element (13a).
