## CPC

- H01R 4/22: End caps, i.e. of insulating or conductive material for covering or maintaining connections between wires entering the cap from the same end
- H02G 15/08: Cable junctions (for gas or oil filled cables H02G15/24)
- H01R: ELECTRICALLY-CONDUCTIVE CONNECTIONS; STRUCTURAL ASSOCIATIONS OF A PLURALITY OF MUTUALLY-INSULATED ELECTRICAL CONNECTING ELEMENTS; COUPLING DEVICES; CURRENT COLLECTORS
- H02G: INSTALLATION OF ELECTRIC CABLES OR LINES, OR OF COMBINED OPTICAL AND ELECTRIC CABLES OR LINES

## Abstract

An electrical connector for electrically connecting wires includes first and second members pivotally coupled together. The first member has an opening and the second member has a receptacle, where the opening of the first member and the receptacle of the second member are configured to generally align when the first and second members are in a first position such that wires can be inserted through the opening of the first member and into the receptacle of the second member for electrically connecting the wires. A metallic coil is positioned within the receptacle of the second member and configured to electrically connect the wires. And, a sleeve is positioned adjacent the receptacle of the second member, generally above the metallic coil, for holding insulating material in the electrical connector to help coat the wires when the wires are received into the electrical connector.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An electrical connector for electrically connecting wires, the electrical connector comprising first and second members pivotally coupled and moveable between a first position and a second position, the first member having an opening and the second member having a receptacle; wherein the opening of the first member and the receptacle of the second member are configured to generally align when the first and second members are in the first position such that wires can be inserted through the opening of the first member and into the receptacle of the second member for electrically connecting the wires.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The electrical connector of claim 1, further comprising a metallic coil positioned within the receptacle of the second member and configured to make the electrical connection between the wires.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The electrical connector of claim 2, wherein the metallic coil is coupled to the second member within the receptacle of the second member.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The electrical connector of claim 2, wherein the metallic coil is configured to retain the wires in the electrical connector after electrically connecting the wires.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The electrical connector of claim 1, further comprising a sleeve positioned adjacent the receptacle of the second member and configured to hold insulating material to help coat the wires when the wires are inserted into the receptacle for electrically connecting the wires.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The electrical connector of claim 5, wherein the sleeve includes a recessed portion configured to generally align with the opening of the first member when the first and second members are in the second position.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The electrical connector of claim 1, wherein the first member further includes a shoulder configured to bend the wires inserted through the opening of the first member when the first and second members are moved from the first position to the second position.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The electrical connector of claim 1, further comprising a hinge pin pivotally coupling the first and second members together.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The electrical connector of claim 8, wherein the hinge pin is integrally formed with one of the first and second members.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The electrical connector of claim 1, wherein the first member includes a pair of arms and the second member includes a pair of corresponding tabs, and wherein the arms of the first member are configured to hook over the tabs of the second member when the first and second members move to the second position to thereby secure the first and second arms together in the second position.

### Claim 11

An electrical connector for electrically connecting wires, the electrical connector comprising:
a first member;
a second member pivotally coupled to the first member, the second member having a receptacle configured to receive wires to be connected into the electrical connector;
a metallic coil positioned within the receptacle of the second member and configured to make an electrical connection between the wires received into the electrical connector; and
a sleeve positioned adjacent the receptacle of the second member and configured to hold insulating material to help coat the wires when the wires are received into the electrical connector.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The electrical connector of claim 11, wherein the first and second members are moveable between a first position and a second position, the first member having an opening configured to generally align with the receptacle of the second member when the first and second members are in the first position such that wires can be inserted through the opening of the first member and into the receptacle of the second member for electrically connecting the wires.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The electrical connector of claim 12, wherein the first member further includes a shoulder configured to bend wires inserted through the opening of the first member when the first and second members are moved from the first position to the second position

### Claim 14 (depends on 11)

The electrical connector of claim 11, wherein the metallic coil is coupled to the second member within the receptacle of the second member.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The electrical connector of claim 14, wherein the metallic coil is configured to retain the wires in the electrical connector after electrically connecting the wires.

### Claim 16 (depends on 11)

The electrical connector of claim 11, wherein the sleeve includes a recessed portion configured to generally align with the opening of the first member when the first and second members are in the second position.

### Claim 17 (depends on 11)

The electrical connector of claim 11, further comprising a hinge pin pivotally coupling the first and second members together.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The electrical connector of claim 17, wherein the hinge pin is integrally formed with one of the first and second members.
