## Abstract

A method for regeneration of a particle filter (202) pertaining to a combustion process, which filter treats exhaust gases arising from combustion in a combustion engine (101): During regeneration, controlling the engine (101) according to a first mode and a second mode, in the first mode, the engine (101) is controlled such that a high exhaust temperature is generated, determining a temperature of the particle filter (202), and controlling the engine (101) according to the first mode when the temperature determined is below a first value until the temperature reaches a higher second value, and then controlling the engine in the second mode. The invention relates also to a system and a vehicle (100).

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for regeneration of a particle filter (202) pertaining to a combustion process, which filter is arranged to treat exhaust gases arising from combustion in a combustion engine (101), which method comprises:
during said regeneration, controlling said engine (101) according to a first mode and a second mode, in which first mode the engine (101) is controlled in such a way that a high exhaust temperature is generated, which method further comprises:
determining a temperature for said particle filter (202), and
controlling said engine (101) according to said first mode when said temperature determined is below a first value.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

A method according to claim 1, whereby in said second mode the engine (101) is controlled in such a way that a substantially larger amount of nitrogen oxides is delivered than in said first mode.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1, 2)

A method according to claim 1 or 2, whereby said engine (101) is controlled according to said first mode until said temperature determined reaches a second value which is higher than said first value, whereupon control of said engine (101) changes to said second mode.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

A method according to claim 3, whereby said second value is a suitable temperature exceeding 250° C.

### Claim 5

A method according to any one of the foregoing claims, whereby said first value is a suitable temperature below 500° C.

### Claim 6 (depends on 3)

A method according to claim 3, further comprising, when said temperature determined has reached said second value and control of said engine (101) has changed to said second mode, controlling said engine (101) according to said second mode until said temperature determined drops to said first value, whereupon control of said engine (101) reverts to said first mode.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

A method according to claim 6, whereby said first and/or second values are altered on the basis of current engine load.

### Claim 8 (depends on 3)

A method according to claim 3, further comprising, when said temperature determined has reached said second value and control of said engine (101) has changed to said second mode, controlling said engine (101) according to said second mode for a first period of time, after which control of said engine (101) reverts to said first mode.

### Claim 9 (depends on 6, 7, 8)

A method according to any one of claims 6-8, whereby said mode change recurs until said particle filter (202) has been regenerated to a desired level or the regeneration is for some other reason discontinued.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

A method according to claim 9, whereby said particle filter (202) has been regenerated to a desired level when a differential pressure across it has dropped to a desired level.

### Claim 11

A method according to any one of the foregoing claims, whereby in said first mode the engine (101) is controlled in such a way that a substantially maximised exhaust temperature is achieved.

### Claim 12

A method according to any one of the foregoing claims, whereby in said first mode the efficiency of the engine (101) is lowered to a low level so that a larger proportion of the energy changes to heat.

### Claim 13

A method according to any one of the foregoing claims, whereby, at least in said first mode, the load upon the combustion engine (101) is increased by increasing
a pumping work Mgas, and/or
a braking torque Magg generated by ancillaries with which the vehicle is fitted.

### Claim 14

A method according to any one of the foregoing claims, whereby in said second mode at least 50% higher content of nitrogen oxides is generated than in said first mode.

### Claim 15

A method according to any one of the foregoing claims, whereby said first and second temperatures are determined by means of one or more temperature sensors (210-212) situated in or near to said particle filter (202).

### Claim 16

A method according to any one of the foregoing claims, whereby said first and second temperatures are determined by means of a temperature sensor (210-212) situated in the exhaust flow, in conjunction with a model of said exhaust treatment.

### Claim 17

A method according to any one of the foregoing claims, whereby in said first mode fuel is injected at least partly after a piston in said engine has passed top dead centre.

### Claim 18

A method according to any one of the foregoing claims, whereby in said first mode fuel is injected at a later time and/or injection angle during said combustion than in the case of injection of fuel according to said second mode.

### Claim 19

A method according to any one of the foregoing claims, whereby said regeneration method is a method for NO2 based regeneration of said particle filter (202).

### Claim 20

A system for regeneration of a particle filter (202) pertaining to a combustion process, which filter is intended to treat exhaust gases arising from combustion in a combustion engine (101), which system is adapted to controlling said engine (101) according to at least a first mode and a second mode, in which first mode the engine (101) is controlled in such a way that a high exhaust temperature is generated, which system further comprises:
means of determining a temperature for said particle filter (202) and
