The present disclosure is concerned with an improved latching mechanism for the hinged section of a ceiling track for traveling curtains. The latching mechanism is designed to make a readily audible sound when it is locked. It is based upon a generally oval shaped lock knob which passes through a generally oval shaped aperture in the bottom wall of a receiver for the lock knob. The aperture is designed so that when the lock knob is rotated its long axis no longer aligns with the long axis of the aperture it can no longer pass through the aperture. The bottom wall of the receiver carries two upwardly extending side walls that must be pushed outward to allow the passage of the lock knob as it rotates and that carry gaps that accommodate the tips of the lock knob and allow the side walls to move back toward their undeformed position.
In a ceiling track system for the suspension of travelling curtains which contains a hinged section which can be lowered from the ceiling to facilitate the loading or unloading of a curtain by the use of a removable mechanical actuating key which serves to release or secure a latching mechanism which secures the hinged section to the ceiling in the same plane as the continuation of the ceiling track to which it is hinged, the improvement comprising a latching mechanism comprising a generally oval shaped lock knob which it is adapted to rotate about its center and which has tips on the long ends of its oval shape which are designed to repeatedly slide over a surface and a receiver with a bottom wall containing an oval shaped aperture through which the lock knob will pass when their long axes are aligned and two generally vertical elastically deformable sidewalls, each of which contains a generally vertical gap large enough to accommodate one of said tips, said sidewalls being generally parallel to the long axis of said aperture with their gaps being so placed that when said lock knob is rotated so that the long axis of its generally oval shape is perpendicular to the long axis of said aperture the tips of its long axis seat in said gaps and said sidewalls being spaced from each other such that said tips need to force said side walls outward as said lock knob is rotated about its shaft in order to seat in said gaps and said tips and said sidewalls designed to interact such that when said tips seat in said gaps an audible sound is produced.
