System and method for whitelisting applications in a mobile network environment

Logic encoded in non-transitory media that includes code for execution and when executed by a processor is operable to perform operations comprising:

• identifying one or more attributes of an application in a plurality of applications;
• determining a reputation score of the application based at least in part on the identified attributes;
• determining whether the application should be included in a first whitelist;
• and
• applying the whitelist against a request to download the application on a mobile device.

A system comprising:

• a memory configured to store data;
• and
• a processor operable to execute instructions associated with the data;
• a mobile application approval engine, adapted when executed by the at least one processor device to:
• identify one or more attributes of an application in a plurality of applications;
• determine a reputation score of the application based at least in part on the identified attributes;
• determine whether the application should be included in a first whitelist;
• and
• apply the whitelist against a request to download the application on a mobile device.
