System and method for providing a messaging application program interface

A method for providing a messaging application program interface (API) for use in a computing environment such as a data center, middleware machine system or similar environment, comprising the steps of:

• providing a computing appliance which includes one or more processor nodes for executing one or more application environments;
• providing a communication fabric connecting the one or more processor nodes and the application environments executing thereon;
• and
• providing a message bus implementation and messaging API that enables messaging within the computing appliance utilizing the communication fabric, including
• enabling a first application environment at a sender to issue a request to communicate message data to a second application environment at a receiver, using remote direct memory access (RDMA), including
• allocating space in the sender's memory for storage of the message data, and
• transferring the message data from the sender to the receiver asynchronously with providing the message data to the second application environment and providing a receipt to the first application environment.

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium, including instructions stored thereon, which when read and executed by a computer, cause the computer to perform the steps comprising:

• providing a computing appliance which includes one or more processor nodes for executing one or more application environments;
• providing a communication fabric connecting the one or more processor nodes and the application environments executing thereon;
• and
• providing a message bus implementation and messaging API that enables messaging within the computing appliance utilizing the communication fabric, including
• enabling a first application environment at a sender to issue a request to communicate message data to a second application environment at a receiver, using remote direct memory access (RDMA), including
• allocating space in the sender's memory for storage of the message data, and
• transferring the message data from the sender to the receiver asynchronously with providing the message data to the second application environment and providing a receipt to the first application environment.

A method for using a message bus implementation and messaging API that enables messaging within a computing appliance utilizing a communication fabric, said communication fabric connecting one or more processor nodes in and application environments executing on said computing appliance, said method comprising:

• enabling a first application environment at a sender to issue a request to communicate a message data to a second application environment at a receiver;
• allocating space in the sender's memory for storage of the message data, communicating a notification to the receiver providing the location of the message data;
• and
• transferring the message data from the sender to the receiver asynchronously with providing the message data to second application environment and providing a receipt to the first application environment.

A system for using a message bus implementation and messaging API that enables messaging within a computing appliance utilizing a communication fabric, said communication fabric connecting one or more processor nodes in and application environments executing on said computing appliance, said system comprising:

• means for enabling a first application environment at a sender to issue a request to communicate a message data to a second application environment at a receiver;
• means for allocating space in the sender's memory for storage of the message data, communicating a notification to the receiver providing the location of the message data;
• and
• means for transferring the message data from the sender to the receiver asynchronously with providing the message data to second application environment and providing a receipt to the first application environment.

A system comprising:

• a first node;
• a second node;
• and
• a communication fabric connecting the first and second nodes, wherein each of the first node and second node have a messaging application program interface (API), and wherein the messaging API enables the first node to issue a remote direct memory access (RDMA) request to communicate a message data to the second node, allocate space in the first node's memory for storage of the message data, communicate a notification to the second node providing the location of the message data, and transfer the message data from the first node to the second node asynchronously with providing the message data to the receiver.
