Abstract
An electronic message may be reconfigured to effect an enhanced notification using an input interface to receive at least one electronic message created by or on behalf of a message source for delivery to an intended recipient. A matching engine determines whether the electronic message corresponds to a predetermined definition of an enhanced notification. An enhancement engine reconfigures the electronic message to the enhanced notification if stored information related to the intended recipient indicates that the intended recipient is subscribed to receive the enhanced notification. Reconfiguring the electronic message may include reconfiguring the message to provide special handling, routing or presentation.

A system comprising:
- an input interface configured to receive electronic messages intended for one or more recipients;
- at least one processor configured to:
- selectively reconfigure the electronic messages into one or more formats;
- and
- send the electronic messages via one or more delivery mechanisms;
- and
- a non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing one or more logical rules, the one or more logical rules dictating at least one format and at least one delivery mechanism for a given electronic message based on one or more attributes of the given electronic message, one or more attributes of the sender of the given electronic message, or one or more attributes of the intended recipient of the given electronic message.
The system as recited 31, wherein the notification comprises an icon.
A system comprising:
- at least one processor configured to:
- selectively reconfigure electronic messages;
- and
- selectively send the electronic messages via one or more delivery mechanisms;
- and
- a non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing one or more logical rules the one or more logical rules dictating at least one delivery mechanism for a given electronic message based one or more attributes of an intended recipient of the given electronic message and one or more preferences set by the intended recipient.
A method comprising:
- identifying an electronic message and an intended recipient of the electronic message;
- determining, using at least one processor, at least one delivery mechanism for delivering the electronic message based on one or more attributes of the intended recipient of the electronic message and one or more preferences set by the intended recipient;
- and
- formatting, using the at least one processor, the electronic message as a notification and sending the notification to the intended recipient via the at least one delivery mechanism.
The method as recited in claim 68, wherein the notification additionally comprises an audible alert.
