Abstract
A coating for an ink jet printhead front face, wherein the coating comprises an oleophobic low adhesion coating having high thermal stability as indicated by less than about 15 percent weight loss when heated to up to 300° C., and wherein a drop of ultra-violet (UV) gel ink or a drop of solid ink exhibits a contact angle of greater than about 45° and sliding angle of less than about 30° with a surface of the coating, wherein the coating maintains the contact angle and sliding angle after the coating has been exposed to a temperature of at least 200° C. for at least 30 minutes.
Claims23
A coating for an ink jet printhead front face, wherein the coating comprises:
- an oleophobic low adhesion coating having high thermal stability as indicated by less than about 15 percent weight loss when heated to up to 300° C., and wherein a drop of ultra-violet (UV) gel ink or a drop of solid ink exhibits a contact angle of greater than about 45° and sliding angle of less than about 30° with a surface of the coating, wherein the coating maintains the contact angle and sliding angle after the coating has been exposed to a temperature of at least 200° C. for at least 30 minutes.
A process of forming an oleophobic low adhesion coating for an ink jet printhead front face, comprising:
- coating a reactant mixture comprising a first isocyanate compound and a hydroxyl functionalized fluoro-crosslinking material onto a substrate, wherein the reactant mixture is coated from a mixture of at least one fluoroalkyl ether solvent and at least one aliphatic ester solvent;
- subjecting the coated reactant mixture to a first curing treatment at a temperature in a range between 130° C. and 150° C. for a period of time in a range between 30 minutes and 2 hours;
- and
- thereafter, subjecting the coated reactant mixture to a second curing treatment at a temperature in a range between 250° C. and 300° C. for a period of time in a range between 30 minutes and 60 minutes.
