Abstract
The present application refers to methods for cancer diagnosis and treatment, particularly in types of cancers associated with aberrant CpG methylation of the miR-34a promoter.
Claims6
A method for cancer diagnosis, comprising detecting the degree of CpG methylation of the miR-34a promoter in a sample, wherein a high methylation degree is associated with cancer.
A method for cancer treatment in a subject suffering from a cancer associated with CpG hypermethylation of the miR-34a promoter comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a DNA methyltransferase inhibitor and/or a histone deacetylase inhibitor.
A method for cancer treatment in a subject suffering from a cancer associated with CpG hypermethylation of the miR-34a promoter, comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of an agent which activates the p53 signal transduction pathway.
A method for cancer treatment in a subject suffering from a cancer associated with CpG hypermethylation of the miR-34a promoter, comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a chemotherapeutic agent which causes DNA damage and/or subjecting the subject to irradiation treatment.
A method for combined cancer diagnosis and treatment comprising
- (i) detecting the degree of CpG methylation of the miR-34a promoter in a sample, wherein a high methylation degree is associated with cancer, and wherein said sample is derived from a subject suffering from cancer and
- (ii) subjecting said subject to a cancer treatment assumed to be effective for the diagnosed condition.
