Abstract
Genome-wide association studies have been used to elucidate genes and/or pathways related to diseases; however, this methodology has yet to be used to understand the phenotype of healthy aging and/or healthspan in humans.
Claims21
A method of promoting healthy aging in a human in need thereof or preventing a disease associated with the elderly in a human in need thereof comprising administering to the human an agent that (a) modulates the activity or expression of at least one gene in an illderly- or wellderly-associated genomic region spanning from position 139710628 to 139986614 base pairs on human chromosome 5 based on hg19, GRCh37 Genome Reference Consortium Human Reference 37, or (b) modulates the level or activity of at least one expressed product thereof.
A method for predicting a risk for unhealthy aging in a human comprising
- (a) detecting, in a sample obtained from said human, at least one illderly-associated single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), in the genomic region spanning from position 139710628 to 139986614 base pairs on human chromosome 5;
- and
- (b) correlating the detection of the at least one illderly-associated SNP in said human to risk of unhealthy aging;
- wherein said detecting is carried out on a Genome Analyzer.
