Abstract
Embodiments provided herein relate to electro-remediation. In some embodiments, an apparatus for collecting metal is provided and includes a helically shaped electrode. An electrical current can be applied to the apparatus causing metal and ions thereof to become fixed to the electrode.
Claims33
An apparatus for collecting metal, the apparatus comprising:
- a first helically shaped electrode;
- and
- a second electrode, wherein the second electrode is electrically isolated from the first electrode so that the first electrode can serve as an anode while the second electrode can serve as a cathode or so that the first electrode can serve as a cathode while the second electrode can serve as an anode,
- wherein an end of the apparatus is configured so as to allow insertion of the apparatus into soil.

A method for decontaminating soil, the method comprising:
- inserting an apparatus into soil, the apparatus comprising:
- a first helically shaped electrode;
- and
- a second electrode, wherein the second electrode is electrically isolated from the first electrode;
- and
- applying an electrical current to the apparatus.
