Abstract
An approach is provided for the secure exchange of multimedia content through a mobile telephony device. A docking station receives a control signal from a media headset, and in response thereto determines to establish a communication link. The docking station selects one of a plurality of communication options corresponding to different networks based on the type of the communication link. The docking station initiates an authentication procedure for the communication link according to the selected communication option. Subsequent to successful authorization, the docking station receives multimedia content over the authenticated communication link, and transmits the received media signal to the media headset.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- receiving, at a docking station, a control signal from a media headset;
- in response to the control signal, determining, at the docking station, to establish a communication link;
- selecting one of a plurality of communication options corresponding to different networks based on the type of the communication link;
- initiating an authentication procedure for the communication link according to the selected communication option;
- receiving a media signal over the authenticated communication link;
- and
- determining to transmit the received media signal to the media headset.
An apparatus comprising:
- at least one processor;
- and
- at least one memory including computer program code for one or more programs,
- the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to perform at least the following,
- receive a control signal from a media headset;
- in response to the control signal, determine to establish a communication link;
- select one of a plurality of communication options corresponding to different networks based on type of the communication link;
- initiate an authentication procedure for the communication link according to the selected communication option;
- receive a media signal over the authenticated communication link;
- and
- determine to transmit the received media signal to the media headset.
A system comprising:
- a media headset;
- and
- a docking station configured to receive a control signal from the media headset,
- wherein the docking station is further configured to determine to establish a communication link in response to the control signal, to select one of a plurality of communication options corresponding to different networks based on type of the communication link, and to initiate an authentication procedure for the communication link according to the selected communication option, the media signal being received over the authenticated communication link, the docking station being further configured to transmit the received media signal to the media headset.
A headset comprising:
- a display;
- and
- a boom member including a transceiver configured to transmit a control signal to a docking station that is configured to establish a communication link and to select one of a plurality of communication options corresponding to different networks based on type of the communication link,
- wherein an authentication procedure for the communication link is initiated according to the selected communication option,
- wherein the transceiver is further configured to receive a media signal over the authenticated communication link.
