System and method for providing a simulated window utilizing environmental controls operable within a building automation system

A computer-implemented method of simulating an open window utilizing environmental controls operable within a building automation system, the computer-implemented method comprising:

• receiving an activation input via a building automation network deployed within a structure;
• initiating, at a controller, a transient environmental control program configured to control one or more environmental control devices in communication with the building automation network;
• increasing an output from one of the one or more environmental control devices beyond a steady state threshold in response to the transient environmental control program;
• and
• returning the output of the one or more environmental control devices to the steady state threshold after a predetermined period of time has elapsed.

A window simulation controller configured to simulate a window utilizing environmental controls operable within a building automation system, the window simulation controller comprising:

• a communication interface configured to communicate with a building automation network deployed within a structure;
• a processor communicatively coupled to the communication interface and a memory, wherein the memory stores processor executable instructions configured to:
• initiate a transient environmental control program in response to an activation input received via the communication interface;
• communicate, via the communication interface, a first control signal to at least one environmental control device to increase an output beyond a steady state threshold;
• and
• communicate a second control signal to the at least one environmental control device to return the output to the steady state threshold after a period of time has elapsed.

A window simulation controller configured to simulate a window utilizing environmental controls operable within a building automation system, the window simulation controller comprising:

• a communication interface configured to communicate with a building automation network deployed within a structure;
• a processor communicatively coupled to the communication interface and a memory, wherein the memory stores a window simulation application having processor executable instructions configured to:
• receive, via the communication interface, an activation input to simulate the opening of window to a space within the structure;
• communicate, via the communication interface, a first control signal to a variable air volume system configured to control airflow to the space, the first control signal commanding the variable air volume system to cause an air surge to the space;
• and
• communicate, via the communication interface after a pre-determined time period, a second control signal to the variable air volume system to cause the variable system to end the air surge.
