Abstract
This invention relates to shipping pallets 10 that may be constructed, at least in part, from structural members 100 that are largely fabricated from paper and paper based materials. One or more of the structural members 100 may include a wrapper 60 secured in tension to a core 20. The core 20 may include one or more laminated fiberboard sheets 40. Because of the use of paper and paper based materials, the one or more aspects of shipping pallets 10 in accordance with the present inventions may be recycled.

An apparatus, comprising:
- a shipping pallet including at least an upper deck and one or more runners, at least one of a group including the upper deck or one or more runners including a structural member, the structural member defining a longitudinal direction and comprising a core and a wrapper, the core comprising a compressible material configured from a plurality of fiberboard sheets, the fiberboard sheets having at least one linerboard and at least one fluted medium, the flutes in the fluted medium defining flute axes, at least some of the flute axes being substantially perpendicular to the core lower surface and the core upper surface, with the fiberboard sheets disposed such that linerboards lie in a substantially parallel orientation with each fiberboard sheet positioned against adjacent fiberboard sheets and with each fiberboard sheet secured to adjacent fiberboard sheets to form, the core defining at least a first core surface, a second core surface, a core lower surface, a core upper surface, a core first end, and a core second end, an adhesive on the first core surface between the core first end and the second core end and an adhesive on the second core surface between the core first end and the second core end, the wrapper comprising a paper formed from a cellulose based material, the wrapper wrapped around the core in contact with each of the first core surface, the second core surface, the core lower surface, and the core upper surface, the wrapper in contact with the adhesive, the wrapper secured in tension with the adhesive to the core lower surface and the core upper surface between at least the core first end and the core second end, the core is in compression, and at least a portion of the tension in the wrapper is in the upper core surface along the longitudinal direction of the structural member and at least a portion of the tension in the wrapper is in the lower core surface along the longitudinal direction of the structural member.
