Abstract
Methods, compositions and systems for prolonging the lives of transportation surfaces, including pavement, runways, bridges and parking structures include chemically protecting the transportation surfaces. Chemical protection may be accompanied by physical alteration of the transportation surface, which may enhance one or both of a microtexture and a macrotexture of the transportation surface.
Claims18
A method for treating a transportation surface, comprising:
- physically altering a transportation surface;
- and
- chemically protecting the transportation surface during or after physically altering the surface to enhance a useful life of the transportation surface.
The method of claim 11, wherein applying the lithium-based hardener occurs before the corrosion inhibitor of the sealer cures.
A system for increasing durability of a transportation surface, comprising:
- a physical alteration component for physically altering a microtexture of the transportation surface;
- and
- a protective chemical for enhancing a useful life of the transportation surface.
A method for repairing a transportation surface, comprising:
- removing material from a top of a damaged transportation surface;
- applying an overlay to the damaged transportation surface to provide the damaged transportation surface with a new surface;
- enhancing a microtexture of a surface of the overlay;
- and
- chemically protecting the surface of the overlay.
