Abstract
A desegregation apparatus that desegregates a stream of HMA that includes particles of varying size includes a desegregation hopper, which houses an auger assembly. A series of counter-handed augers is mounted on a shaft disposed within the hopper. Open sections are disposed between adjacent auger sections and above openings in the bottom surface of the hopper.
Claims13
An apparatus that desegregates a hot mix asphalt (HMA) stream, the apparatus comprising:
- a) a desegregation hopper comprising a front panel, an opposed rear panel, and two opposed sidewalls, wherein a first sidewall extends between a first end of the front panel and a first end of the rear panel, and wherein the second sidewall extends between a second end of the front panel and a second end of the rear panel;
- b) mixing means for desegregating the HMA stream to produce a desegregated HMA stream, the mixing means comprising an auger assembly that is disposed within the desegregation hopper and that extends generally between an inside surface of the first sidewall and an inside surface of the second sidewall;
- and outlet means for releasing the desegregated HMA stream from the desegregation hopper while controlling a roadbed-profile of the HMA by causing the HMA stream to exit through at least one configurable opening defined in a bottom surface of the desegregation hopper.
An apparatus that desegregates a hot mix asphalt (HMA) stream, the apparatus comprising:
- a) a desegregation hopper comprising a front panel, an opposed rear panel, and two opposed sidewalls;
- and
- b) an auger assembly that is disposed within the desegregation hopper and that extends generally between an inside surface of the first sidewall and an inside surface of the second sidewall, wherein the auger assembly includes at least three auger sections serially mounted on an outside surface of a shaft comprises a first end rotatable relative to the inside surface of the first sidewall and a second end rotatable relative to the inside surface of the second sidewall, and wherein at least two of the auger sections are counter-handed with respect to one another.
An apparatus that desegregates a hot mix asphalt (HMA) stream, the apparatus comprising:
- a) a desegregation hopper comprising a front panel, an opposed rear panel, and two opposed sidewalls, wherein a first sidewall extends between a first end of the front panel and a first end of the rear panel, and wherein the second sidewall extends between a second end of the front panel and a second end of the rear panel;
- b) an auger assembly that is disposed within the desegregation hopper and that extends generally between an inside surface of the first sidewall and an inside surface of the second sidewall, the auger assembly comprising:
- (1) a shaft that is rotatable, at a first end, relative to the inside surface of the first sidewall and that extends through the desegregation hopper, wherein the shaft is rotatable, at a second end, relative to the inside surface of the second sidewall;
- (2) a plurality of consecutively mounted and spaced apart auger sections wherein each said consecutively mounted auger section is separated by an open section of the shaft and is counter handed relative to the next said consecutively mounted auger section.
An apparatus that desegregates a hot mix asphalt (HMA) stream, the apparatus comprising:
- a) a desegregation hopper comprising a front panel, an opposed rear panel, and two opposed sidewalls, and a bottom surface wherein a first sidewall extends between a first end of the front panel and a first end of the rear panel, and wherein the second sidewall extends between a second end of the front panel and a second end of the rear panel;
- b) a plurality of moveable panels each positioned over an opening in said bottom surface and wherein the position of at least one of said panels is laterally adjustable;
- and
- c) an auger assembly disposed within the desegregation hopper that generally extends between an inside surface of the first sidewall and an inside surface of the second sidewall, the auger assembly comprising a rotatable shaft upon which are mounted at least three auger sections, each counter handed to the auger section next to it
