Abstract
Systems and methods for reducing reservation request overhead in a communications network in which devices are connected via a coax network are provided. A method for managing transmission of data over a MoCA network according to the invention may include monitoring data transmission requirements at a node on the network; generating statistics of the data transmission requirements; predicting transmission requirements from the statistics; and reserving future transmission opportunities in view of the predicted transmission requirements.

A method for managing transmission of data over a coaxial network, the method comprising:
- predicting transmission requirements of a node of the coaxial network based on prior activity of the node;
- and
- requesting a future transmission opportunity for transmitting data from the node in the future.
A method for managing transmission of data over a coaxial network, the coaxial network formed from a plurality of network nodes and a coaxial backbone, the managing using a network controller, the method comprising:
- receiving, at the network controller, a request from one of the plurality of network nodes, the request for transmitting data at a future time, the request being based on a prediction of a future transmission requirement for the node, the data not yet received by the node, the prediction of the future transmission requirement being based on prior activity of the node;
- allocating a future time for transmission of data;
- and
- sending a permission to the node to transmit data at the future time.
A node for use in a coaxial network, the node configured to:
- predict the node's transmission requirements based on prior activity of the node;
- and
- request a future transmission opportunity for transmitting data from the node, said transmitting opportunity occurring in the future.
