Abstract
Disclosed is a method and apparatus for detecting the concentration of a lipophilic analyte of interest in a complex sample matrix. The method comprises extracting the analyte of interest from said sample into an organic solvent comprising a dissolved electrolyte; providing a free radical species, preferably a free oxygen radical species, in said organic solvent; reacting the Canalyte of interest with said free radical species; and performing a measurement to detect the concentration of the free radical-reacted analyte reaction product.
Claims16
A method for detecting the concentration of a lipophilic analyte of interest in a complex sample matrix, the method comprising:
- extracting an analyte of interest from said sample into an organic solvent comprising a dissolved electrolyte;
- providing a free radical species in said organic solvent;
- reacting the analyte of interest with said free radical species;
- and
- performing a measurement to detect the concentration of the free radical-reacted analyte reaction product.
An apparatus for detecting the concentration of a lipophilic analyte of interest, comprising:
- an electrochemical cell for performing a measurement to detect the concentration of a radical-reacted analyte reaction product of a free radical species and an analyte of interest in an organic solvent further comprising an electrolyte dissolved therein, said electrochemical cell comprising a plurality of electrodes;
- a controller programmed to provide said electrodes with a plurality of voltages including at least one voltage value exceeding the oxidation or reduction potential of the free radical-reacted analyte reaction product;
- and
- a signal processor coupled to said electrodes for determining the concentration of the analyte of interest from the signal generated by said electrodes in response to said plurality of voltages.
