Abstract
A method for maintaining the heading of a ship during movements caused by waves approaching the ship from a stern direction by activating a control surface in a bow of the ship such that the control surface converts a water flow along the bow into a lateral force that opposes roll, yaw, or heeling movements and course changes.
Claims20
A method for maintaining the heading of a ship during yaw or roll movements caused by waves approaching the ship from a stern direction
- comprising the steps of:
- activating a control system in response to the waves approaching the ship from a stern direction;
- activating, in response to a signal from the control system, a control surface in a bow of the ship such that the control surface converts a water flow along the bow into an adjustable lateral force, wherein the lateral force counteracts a course alteration and/or a roll movement of the ship resulting from the waves.
A method for maintaining the heading of a ship during movements caused by waves approaching the ship from a stern direction
- comprising the steps of:
- activating a control surface in a bow of the ship such that the control surface converts a water flow along the bow into an adjustable lateral force.
A method for maintaining a forward moving ship with a foreship having a bow and an aft ship having a stern and an aft rudder on a preset course,
- while the ship is directionally controlled by a helmsman or an autopilot and
- while incoming waves cause a yaw movement of the ship resulting in a course alteration and a roll movement of the ship,
- characterized in that
- for applying directional control with incoming waves from stern quarters, the helmsman or the autopilot activate a control surface in the foreship such that the control surface converts a water flow along the bow into an adjustable lateral force that corrects the course alteration and counteracts the roll movement.
