A method for prophylactic and/or therapeutic treatment of hepatic steatosis or non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, which comprises administering to a mammal in need thereof a prophylactically and/or therapeutically effective amount of a polyprenyl compound, wherein the polyprenyl compound is 3,7,11,15-tetramethyl-2,4,6,10,14-hexadecapentaenoic acid.
