On-demand image spriting

A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:

• receiving a page request for a requested document, the requested document specifying a plurality of first images as being presentable within the requested document;
• generating a modified document by modifying the requested document in response to the receiving of the page request,
• the modified document specifying a second image, the second image to be generated based on the plurality of first images;
• generating the second image from the plurality of first images;
• and
• providing the modified document and access to the second image in response to the received page request for the requested document.

A system comprising:

• a reception module configured to receive a page request for a requested document, the requested document specifying a plurality of first images as being presentable within the requested document;
• a document module configured to generate a modified document by modifying the requested document in response to the receiving of the page request,
• the modified document specifying a second image, the second image to be generated based on the plurality of first images;
• an image module implemented using a processor of a machine, the image module being configured to generate the second image from the plurality of first images;
• and
• a provision module configured to provide the modified document and access to the second image in response to the received page request for the requested document.

A system comprising:

• means for receiving a page request for a requested document, the requested document specifying a plurality of first images as being presentable within the requested document;
• means for generating a modified document by modifying the requested document in response to the receiving of the page request,
• the modified document specifying a second image, the second image to be generated based on the plurality of first images;
• means for generating the second image from the plurality of first images;
• and
• means for providing the modified document and access to the second image in response to the received page request for the requested document.
